Term 3 is in full swing!

We have had another visit from Gladigators which was great fun and allowed us to reinforce the importance of brushing our teeth and how we do it. We were also allowed to go on the inflatable assault course which was brilliant!

Everyone is looking forward to our trip on 28th February to Vikingar, Largs. This will help us with our work and will allow us to learn out of school and in a different way :)

Our class have been trying hard to remember our water bottles and walk to school everyday to ensure we get a chance to play in the dodge ball tournament, organised by Mrs Gray for Health Month.

We are also looking forward to an afternoon of Zumba and the many other activities taking place this month.

Our recent Open Evening for parents allowed them to see the amazing changes that have taken place. This was very impressive for all involved :)

What a fantastic start to a New Year :)!!

We were all very excited as we entered the playground on 5th January 2012 :)) We couldn't wait to see our lovely new school and all it's fancy gadgets.

The transformation has been totally amazing! So much so some parts of the school are difficult to visualise as they were before!

Our new classroom is absolutely fantastic and we are so lucky to be in such a lovely, modern building. All of us love the new teaching wall where Miss Fulton's resources are kept and the smartboard. There is also a fabulous new slidng whiteboard, this is very impressive.

We have highlighted our favourites aspects of the school. One thing that has really stood out is the super speaker system which allows the office staff and Mrs Wieland to make announcements that can be heard all over the school!

New routines have been picked up very quickly and we are all in the habit of changing our shoes to protect our lovely carpets.

It's Joyning The Learning topic time again...this will be revealed to you at our open evening in March!

We have completed our level 3 Heartstart input and did very well putting our 'casualties' in to the recovery position.

As term 2 comes to an end we are all very excited about our Christmas holiday and even more so about moving back to our amazing new school.

We have worked extremely hard this term and are ready for a well earned break.

On Monday 12th December we will be hosting a 'Trashion Show' with room 12 to raise money for a new recycling bin. This is all part of our enterprise topic. We are looking forward to showcasing our outfits and sharing our knowledge with parents and some of the classes.

We had a visit from Brian Hawthorn who taught us about Christmas Around the World. This was very enjoyable and informative for all of us.

Our Christmas concert has been a huge success and all of us have really enjoyed it so far!

Another event we are looking forward to is the Baldy Bane pantomime on Friday 9th December, this is always fantastic.

We can't wait to settle in to our new classroom back at Ard Road. We will update our blog in the new year!

Term 1 coming to an end

Primary 4 have worked very hard during term 1 and are looking forward to our October holiday.

We were lucky enough to take part in Gladigators and even had a shot on the huge inflatable assault course.

Massage has been something we have been working on with Miss Paterson. She was very impressed with how well we were doing.

Our China topic is almost completed and we have enjoyed learning about the country, traditions and Chinese new year. We have made lanterns, lucky money envelopes, fans and much more. Our masks we made for homework are fantastic and will create a great display for our wall.

During numeracy lessons we have learned about the location of several areas in China using co-ordinates and compass points. WE had to measure out our lucky money envelopes and have been busy making a yuan catalogue to sell items using a given exchange rate.

All of us have settled well in to our new class :)

We have been working very hard and are enjoying the greater responsibilies we have in the junior school.

Our new Class Charter is helping us to ensure everyone is entitled to their rights and can acknowledge their responsibilities. This will allow us to contribute to achieving Rights Respecting Schools award.

All of us are excited about our new China Topic and are looking forward to finding out more :)

We are ready to work hard and learn as much as we can.

Our class are focusing on our Quality Line, Quality Audience, Quality Working Time and Quality Group Work.

All of our photographs will be on as soon as possible with some more updates on our busy days ahead!

The Final Countdown...

As we come close to the end of term this will be our final blog for P4.

We have all worked very hard over the past few weeks and Miss Fulton is very proud.

On Wednesday 22nd June we visited Lochwinnoch (Muirshiel). While we were there we were able to hunt for mini beasts and learned a lot about the wildlife in the area. John, our guide, was very helpful and made our day very interesting, informative and fun. In the afternoon we had lunch and then took part in a variety of games. We were very lucky as it stayed dry for the whole day :)

We are looking forward to our end of term reward on Monday 24th June. This term we are getting to try out the bouncy football pitch! We are very lucky and can't wait to get on it!

P4 would like to wish you a very happy and safe summer holiday!

Another fantastic term

Term 3 is now over and we have all thoroughly enjoyed it! Everyone had a fantastic time at our open evening, where we took part in lots of different activities including- food tasting, pin the shield on Remus, feely boxes and many more. The feedback we received was extremely positive and everyone was very impressed with all of our hard work. We managed to free Remus and send him back to Rome. As a result we all got a scroll with a thank you note and our picture on it, these were very funny. We have all had a relaxing holiday and are ready to start working again. Our new topic...

Active maths is a fun way to learn our tables

We were very lucky to receive a letter from the Roman God Remus who is trapped in Renfrew. He has asked us to find out information about his country and his people to help him escape from Renfrew and return to Rome. He has been watching us do our work.

On Wednesday we found a sandal with another letter from Remus. This time he told us he would leave something outside our class when Kirklandneuk was quiet. We are all very excited to find out what it is going to be. He has asked us to keep up the good work and is very proud of what we have completed so far.

As it is fitness month we have been takin part in aerobics some mornings and Miss Fulton has been leading fitness routines in P.E.

We are all enjoying the exercises and enjoy when it is our turn to lead a routine for the rest of the class to follow.

Our smartboard is now working allowing us to use it during topic, active maths language and for general research. We are all enjoying using the smartboard.

With Parents Night on Tuesday and Wednesday we are hoping for lots of good reports and are working very hard towards this.

Miss Fulton is very pleased with the work we are doing. We have found out lots of information about The Romans and hope that you will see this during our open evening at the end of March.

Welcome to 2011!

This is what they might use to rescue a wild fox or lost dog.
We got to see what the officer would wear and use to rescue animals on cliffs and Swans.

Although this term has only just started, we have been working very hard already!

We have really enjoyed our China topic, which has now come to an end. We have completed our large dragon which you will see in the foyer very soon! Primary 4 also had the chance to try and taste a stir fry- It was delicious! We have used many skills while completing all of the tasks during our topic, including measuring, cutting and folding to make Lucky Money envelopes. We also made Willow Pattern Plates, fans and masks of the animals- taken from the chinese calendar. Miss Fulton thinks we have all been very Successful Learners and enjoyed working on the topic too :)

We recieved a letter from a Roman God, Remus, who has asked us to help him find his way back to his hometown. He told us we would need to learn about his country and people and we have accepted his challenge. All of primary 4 are excited about our new topic and will be working hard to transform part of our classroom.

Our class were lucky enough to have a visit from the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA). We learned a lot about how to help animals in the wild as well as pets. Some children in our class got to use the special equipment that the officers use when rescuing animals in the wild!Here are some pictures for you to look at...Enjoy!

Christmas Update

November 2010

Primary 4 have been working very hard over the past few weeks. We have all been learning lots about China and are in the process of creating our own dragons and a large dragon for our classroom.

We made Santa tree decorations and magnets in boxes for the fayre. These turned out very well and lots of us have bought them too.
We are all very proud of what we made and everyone that visited the fayre had a great time :)

A special mention must go to Megan Barr, who was honoured and lucky enough to become the star of the show, switching on the Renfrew Christmas lights! Megan did very well and felt happy and excited when she put the lights on.

Over the next few weeks we are looking forward to completing our China Topic and working on some Christmas activities. We are looking forward to sampling some Chinese food and completing the challenge of our large dragon.

In maths the rectangles have been finding division easier and the quads are confident with exchanging in subtraction :) Miss Fulton is very pleased with us.

Work home week will be on the 6th of December. We hope everyone will be impressed with our work and can see how much effort we have been putting in.

Over the next few weeks we will be learning our song for the Christmas Concert and practising t0 perform at our best on 16th December.

Term 2

Primary 4 have settled in very well to term 2. With a new school and new teacher the boys and girls are working very hard.

During this term we will be covering our new topic which is 'China'. We are all looking forward to starting this next week :) We will be making arts and crafts as well as sampling some food from China over the next few weeks.

We have also been doing electricity in science. This is very interesting and we are all aware of the safety aspects and dangers that go with using electricity. We are looking forward to building our own battery operated circuits.

With the lead up to Christmas we will be rehearsing a class song which we will perform in December during our Christmas Show.

Miss Fulton is very pleased with how hard we have been working and hopes we can keep this up!

We are all enjoying P.E this term and will continue to work hard on our skills in, both, gymnastics and ball games.

As we have recently set our PLP targets, we are all working towards these and hope to have achieved them by the end of term.

Term 1

We are now well into Term 1 in Primary 4 and are getting used to being upstairs. It is quite different to being in P3 as we are learning to be more independent and being more organised. We have completed our Science Topic about Water and we enjoyed the bit where we did some experiments to find out what substances dissolved in water. In RME we have also been learning about the Islamic Faith. We are also making good progress with our reading, language and maths tasks.
Our topic this term is called Community Needs and Wants, and we have just started on it this week.
The school is getting ready for the move to Moorpark so there is a lot of packing going on and the gym hall is filling up with boxes. We have been doing our PE outside and weather permitting we will continue to do this for the next few weeks so we must bring a jumper or jacket to school.

End of term activities

Hopefully with the weather improving we will do some PE activities outside in preparation for sports day on Tuesday 22nd June. The children are also practising for the Talent Show which is on Thursday 24th June.

Congratulations to all the children who took part in the school show especially Rhys who played Benjamin, one of Joseph's brothers.

Term 4

This term Primary 4 have led the whole school assembly and all the children took part. The assembly was about Global Religions and the children told stories from Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. All the children did very well learning their lines and speaking out.

Our science topic is on identifying living things and we are researching vertebrates and invertebrates.

Our trip is to Castle Semple Park and we hope that we will discover more about insects. It will take place on Wednesday 16th June. Please remember that the children must bring a waterproof jacket and wear sensible footwear. They must also remember to bring a packed lunch.

Special Mission - to Raise the Titanic

Primary 4 have had a very busy term and have made very good progress with maths and language. We were given a “Special Mission” to complete for our topic this term during the integrated topic which was to “Raise the Titanic from its watery grave”.

A variety of written work was undertaken and we had a very special class novel instead of the usual reading books. Everybody in the class particularly enjoyed the story (Kaspar – Prince of Cats by Michael Morpurgo). Families were invited to our open evening and were able to see the results of the tremendous effort and hard work that the children had put into this topic. The open evening was a huge success and it was so nice to see so much support for the children.

Our class had a visit from Starling Learning last week, during which we were outside looking for mini-beasts and we found a really interesting variety within the school grounds. The children may like to continue with the search during the holidays if the weather allows!

We are now all looking forward to a well earned rest and hopefully we will all return refreshed and ready to go.

Health Month.

Term 3 in Primary 4.
We have had a great start to the new term, with everybody working very hard. In January we have been focusing on nutrition during our Health and Well-being topic. The children have been learning about healthy food and snacks and how to look after their teeth. February is Physical and Active Health Month and we have had lots of different activities to do. We had great fun in the playground doing Aerobics, and we had a go at playing table tennis at gym.
The class have been given a very special mission to do this term for topic and everyone is very keen and enthusiastic to achieve each part of the mission. We cannot say very much about this at the moment but all will be revealed in due course.

Christmas

At the end of last term Primary 4 were very busy with Christmas activities. We sang the calypso carol at the Christmas Concert, and we had a fantastic Christmas party with Primary 5 and Primary 5/6, where we played games and did lots of dancing.

Scotland topic

On Friday 20th November the class visited Renfrew Library and we learned how a book was made, from the author writing the story, to getting it published and ready to be sold in the shops. The visit was a good opportunity for us to see how a library works and how we can join the library.

At PE this term, we have been learning to do some Scottish dances and we are really enjoying ourselves. We also have Mr Armour coming to do gymnastics with us on Tuesday afternoons for a few weeks.

We have been working on our Scotland topic and are learning about towns and cities, and rivers and mountains. We used the map at http://www.freeworldmaps.net/europe/united-kingdom/scotland/map.html

Our topic this term is about Scotland and we are going to learn lots of interesting things about our country, with a few surprises thrown in!

We are also planning to make items to sell at the Christmas Fayre.

Technology

Mrs Kelly set us a challenge to design and make a recycling bin using old boxes and a variety of materials. We are very enthusiastic about this activity and we hope to let you see the bins in due course.

We have also been learning about water in our science topic and we have done experiments to find out about substances that are soluble and insoluble in water.

Neighbourhood Topic

Primary 4 have come back after the October break to start another busy term. We are continuing to work hard at our maths and language and are making very good progress.

Last term during our Neighbourhood topic we had hoped to take a walk around Kirklandneuk to see the good things and to spot any vandalism. However because the weather was too wet we were unable to do this but we had lots of discussions about our neighbourhood.

September 2009

We have settled well into our new class. This is the first year that we are together in the one class and this is very exciting for us. We are very enthusiastic and hardworking in all our work and we are making lots of progress in reading, language and maths.

Our topic this term is about Our Neighbourhood and we are still hoping (weather permitting) that we can get out for a walk around the area. We have been focussing on how great it is to live in Kirklandneuk but unfortunately we also have to consider the vandalism that happens occasionally.

In science we are learning about water. We have been finding out about the water cycle and how we eventually get lovely clean water into our houses and school.

Our RME topic is about the Islamic religion and we are learning about a festival called Eid al Adha.

We are very lucky to have Gillian McAtee who comes in each Monday to do Music with us.

It has been a very busy term in Primary 4 and we are looking forward to our October break but we are also looking forward to the challenges in the new term.

Term 4

What a busy term we're having! We came back from our Easter break to be told that Primary 4 were to organise an enterprise event. We thought about it and decided that we would host a talent competition. We have all been watching the popular TV show 'Britain's Got Talent' so we named our show 'Kirky's Got Talent!'

We applied for posts within the departments that we wished to work - administration, art and design, marketing and finance. Once we were in post we all got to work straight away!

The marketing department did a great job of advertising our event and the finance department worked well to keep our costs down to maximise our profit. The art and design team made an excellent job of decorating the stage and the admin team made sure that all the letters went out on time to the relevant people.

Leading this industrious workforce were Emily and Adam. They made sure that everyone was on task and keeping to schedule.

We had a class vote to elect 2 people to be out presenters. Our elected hosts were Sorcha and James. They were fantastic hosts, keeping the crowd entertained and making sure the show ran smoothly.

Lastly, we couldn't have had a show without judges. We very lucky that Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell were available on Wednesday afternoon!

Everyone had a wonderful afternoon and the acts were brilliant. The judges had a very hard time deciding the winners! Darren and Declan (Rm 12) received a highly commended award for their singing and dancing, The Spinning Group (Rm 2) were awarded 3rd place for singing and dancing. Joint 2nd place went to the Low Riders (Rm 15) and The McFly's (Rm 8). Dancing their way into 1st place were Mix n Match from Rm 16! The trophies were presented by Emily and Adam.

We have also been working very hard preparing for our anti-bullying assembly. This will take place on Friday 5th June, we hope you'll be able to join us!
We are very excited about going on our class trip to the Hunterian Museum. This is sure to be a very interesting afternoon finding out about the Romans.
Soon our time in room 11 will be over and we will be moving into primary 5. We have all worked very hard this year and made many achievements along the way. Mrs Bryson has enjoyed getting to know us and watching us progress both academically and in our personal interests. We are looking forward to the next school session with excitement and enthusiasm!

Welcome to Rome!

What a busy term Primary 4 have had! We have been working hard to produce outstanding work for our Roman topic. As a class, we decided what we would like to find out about the Romans. Each group became class experts in areas such as gods and goddesses, Roman numerals, gladiators and chariots as well as Roman emperors and clothing and jewellry. The groups spent an afternoon researching their chosen speciality and were questioned by the rest of the class.

We began by learning about why the Romans came to Britian and what Scotland looked like at that time. We then found out about the Roman Army and their weapons and armour. As part of our art work we made two life size Roman soldiers - one to guard our classroom door and one to remain in our class.

During technology time Mrs Bryson set us a chariot challenge. We had to design and build a chariot in accordance with the success criteria. Some were more successful than others!

Our gods and goddesses experts told us all about their chosen area which we found very interesting! We each chose a god or goddess and made an acrostic poems and tracing.

We had lots of fun finding out about Roman numerals! We made tablets out of clay and inscribed our name and date of birth (in Roman numerals of course!) in it.

As well as all this art and technology work we produced many pieces of quality writing. We used our imagination to write letters home from Roman soldiers and became newspaper reporters covering the devastating eruption at Pompeii.

We were able to show all our hard work off to our friends and family at the open afternoon on Friday 27th March. Our visitors were very impressed with our classroom and all the work we have done. Mrs Bryson says that the quality of our work has been excellent this term and we need to keep this up! We should be very proud of ourselves!

Oscar Winning Performance!

Primary 4 had a fun-filled time rehersing for the annual Christmas Concert. Everyone agreed that the song to sing was 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree'. We decided that we would make the performance extra special by dancing during our song. The audience went wild at the end of our performance and we were all thrilled!

We also had a great time at our Christmas party. Primaries 4, 4/5 and 5 had a busy afternoon playing party games, dancing and eating and drinking! Many of us also won prizes. The party really got us all into the festive spirit!

Superb Scientists!

Primary 4 have been very enthusiastic and keen to learn more about their new science topic! This term we have been learning all about electricity. First we made a simple circuit, then we began to experiment with different apparatus creating more extravagant circuits. Luckily we never caused any explosions! We have been working well in our pairs, taking time to help others that were experiencing a bit trouble in their experiment.
Watch out Bell and Einstein - Primary 4 are becoming great scientists!
